Description

For women who had symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection in the past 12 months, STIADAO4 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported seeking advice or treatment from a public maternity home for this problem. This response category is country-specific to Angola.

Some samples in the "STIAD" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

STIADAO4 is combined with STIADAO5 (public health center/post), in STIADPUBHC (all public health centers) for the 2015 Angola sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using STIADAO4 are encouraged to review STIADPUBHC for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

STIADAO4 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where the woman received advice/treatment for an STI is included in Phases III, V and VI forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Although STIADAO4 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in STIADPUBHC, a variable that encompasses all public health centers as potential sources for STI advice/treatment. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of STIADAO4 or the Comparability tab of STIADPUBHC for more information on the specific categories combined for Angola 2015.
