Description

For women who had symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection in the past 12 months, STIADMM2 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported seeking advice or treatment from the Myanmar Red Cross. This response category is country-specific to Myanmar.

Some samples in the "STIAD" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

STIADMM2 is combined with STIADMM1 (Marie Stopes International), STIADMM3 (Population Services International/Myanmar [PSI/M]), STIADMM4 (Myanmar Medical Association), and STIADMM5 (other NGO) in STIADNGO (all NGOs) for the 2015 Myanmar sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using STIADMM2 are encouraged to review STIADNGO for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

STIADMM2 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where the woman received advice/treatment for an STI is included in Phases III, V and VI forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Although STIADMM2 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in STIADNGO, a standard variable that encompasses all NGOs as potential sources for STI advice/treatment. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of STIADMM2 or the Comparability tab of STIADNGO for more information on the specific categories combined for the 2015 Myanmar sample.
