Description

STIADSZ2 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the female respondent reported seeking advice or treatment from a private doctor the last time she experienced symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection in the past year. This response category is country-specific to Eswatini/Swaziland.

Some samples in the "STIAD" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

STIADSZ2 (private doctor) is combined with STIADSZ2 (private hospital/clinic) in STIADPRIVHOS (all private hospitals, clinics, and doctors) for the 2006 Eswatini/Swaziland samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using STIADSZ2 are encouraged to review STIADPRIVHOS for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where the woman received advice/treatment for an STI is included in Phases III, V and VI forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Although STIADSZ2 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in STIADPRIVHOS, a standard variable that encompasses all private hospitals, clinics, and doctors as sources for STI advice/treatment.
