Description

For women who had symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection in the past 12 months, STIADTD6 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported seeking advice or treatment from a private health center for this problem. This response category is country-specific to Chad.

Some samples in the "STIAD" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

STIADTD6 (private health center) is combined with STIADTD7 (private corporate health center) in STIADPRIVHC (all private health centers) for the 1996 and 2014 Chad samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using STIADTD6 are encouraged to review STIADPRIVHC for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

Apart from universe differences and slight differences in question wording, STIADTD6 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where the woman received advice/treatment for an STI is included in Phases III, V and VI forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Although STIADTD6 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in STIADPRIVHC, a standard variable that encompasses all private health centers as sources for STI advice/treatment. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of STIADTD6 or the Comparability tab of STIADPRIVHC for more information on the specific categories combined for the Chad samples.
