Description
For young women who had intercourse in the last 12 months, SXPAR1YNGR (V821A) reports whether the woman's most recent sexual partner was younger, about the same age, or older than she was.
Comparability
Along with universe differences, there are some question wording differences in SXPAR1YNGR (V821A), but the variable is largely comparable across samples. Most commonly, for women who knew their partner's age, the relative age was calculated by the DHS. For women who did not know their partner's age, the woman was asked whether the sexual partner was younger, about the same age, or older than she was. If the partner was older, she was asked whether he was more or less than 10 years older. Surveys that depart from this format are discussed below.
