Description
For young women who had intercourse in the last 12 months, SXPAR2YNGR (V821B) reports whether the woman's second most recent sexual partner was younger, about the same age, or older than she was.
Comparability
Along with universe differences, there are question wording differences in SXPAR2YNGR (V821B), but the variable is largely comparable across samples. Most commonly, for women who knew their partner's age, the relative age was calculated by the DHS. For women who did not know their partner's age, the woman was asked whether the sexual partner was younger, about the same age, or older than her. If the partner was older, she was asked whether he was more or less than 10 years older. Surveys that depart from this format are discussed below.

- Benin 2006: Women age 15-24 who have had sexual intercourse with at least 2 partners in the last 12 months.
- Cameroon 2004: Women age 15-24 who have had sexual intercourse with at least 2 partners in the last 12 months, their 2nd most recent partner was not their spouse/live-in partner, and they don't know the age of this partner.
- Chad 2004: Women age 15-24 who have had sexual intercourse with at least 2 partners in the last 12 months and their 2nd most recent partner was not their spouse/live-in partner.
- Congo (Democratic Republic) 2007: Women age 15-24 who have had sexual intercourse with at least 2 partners in the last 12 months and their 2nd most recent partner was not their spouse/live-in partner.
- Congo Brazzaville 2005: Women age 15-24 who have had sexual intercourse with at least 2 partners in the last 12 months and their 2nd most recent partner was not their spouse/live-in partner.
- Eswatini (Swaziland) 2006: Women age 15-24 who have had sexual intercourse with at least 2 partners in the last 12 months.
- Ethiopia 2005: Women age 15-24 whose households were selected for the male survey and have ever had sexual intercourse.
- Ghana 2003: Women age 15-19 who have had sexual intercourse with at least 2 partners in the last 12 months.
- Ghana 2008: Women age 15-24 who have had sexual intercourse with at least 2 partners in the last 12 months.
- Guinea 2005: Women age 15-24 who have had sexual intercourse with at least 2 partners in the last 12 months.
