Description

For women who had sexual intercourse in the last 12 months, SXPAR3TIMKNO (V768C) indicates how long (how many days, weeks, months or years) the woman had known her third most recent sex partner.

Comparability

Apart from universe differences and slight differences in question wording, SXPAR3TIMKNO (V768C) is largely comparable across samples. Some samples exclude the option of reporting the total amount of time in weeks.

Comparability - Standard DHS

SXPAR3TIMKNO (V768C) first appears in phase IV of the Standard DHS, with the wording "For how long have you had sexual relations with this man?" In phase V, the wording is changed to "For how long (have you had/did you have) a sexual relationship with this person?" In phase VI, the question wording changed to "How long ago did you first have sexual intercourse with this (second/third) person?"

Note that the question wording for Phase IV (generally for samples from the early 2000s) is more suggestive of a current partner and ongoing relationship (although women were also asked the last time they had sex with this person).
