Description

TBCAREPRIVHOS indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the respondent reported she would prefer to seek care at a private hospital or clinic if she had tuberculosis.

Some samples in the "TBCARE" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, such as TBCAREPRIVHOS, while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables. See Comparability for more information on the specific categories combined in TBCAREPRIVHOS.

Because TBCAREPRIVHOS focuses on private hospitals and clinics, these two responses are consolidated in that variable to create a more comprehensive response category. For researchers interested in preserving these country-specific categories:

  • Private hospital/nursing home is listed as TBCARENP2 in IPUMS-DHS
  • Private clinic is listed as TBCARENP3 in IPUMS-DHS

Comparability — Sierra Leone [top]

For the 2019 Sierra Leone survey, there are separate categories for "Private hospital/nursing home" and "Private clinic." Because TBCAREPRIVHOS focuses on private hospitals and clinics, these two responses are consolidated in that variable to create a more comprehensive response category. For researchers interested in preserving these country-specific categories:

  • Private hospital/nursing home is listed as TBCARESL3 in IPUMS-DHS
  • Private clinic is listed as TBCARESL4 in IPUMS-DHS
