Description
GEO_ GH1988_2022 reports the region of Ghana where the respondent was interviewed. The variable is integrated to yield units with consistent boundaries across samples for Ghana.
Labels identify the modern geographic units (regions) contained in each integrated region. Each sample also has its own non-integrated geography variable. The 1993, 1998, 2003, 2008, 2014, 2016, 2019, and 2022 samples have greater geographic detail available in their sample-specific variables.

Comparability
In the 1988 Ghana sample, the Northern, Upper West, and Upper East regions combined to form a group of regions.
The 1993, 1998, 2003, 2008, 2014, 2016, and 2019 Ghana surveys reports results for all ten regions separately. The 2016 and 2019 samples correspond to Malaria Indicators Surveys (MIS).
The 2022 sample splits the country into 16 regions but are combined into 8 units for consistent boundaries from 1988 to 2022.
- Western: Combines Western and Western North
- Volta: Combines Volta and Oti
- Brong-Ahafo: Combines Ahafo, Bono, and Bono-East
- Upper West, Upper East, and Northern: Combines Northern, Savannah, North East, Upper East, and Upper West
- Central, Greater Accra, Eastern, and Ashanti are its own individual regions.
