Description

GEO_HT2000_2016 indicates the region of Haiti where the respondent was interviewed. The variable is integrated to yield units with consistent boundaries across samples.

Labels identify the modern geographic units (departments) contained in each integrated region. Each sample also has its own non-integrated geography variable.

An integrated GIS map (in shapefile format) for Haiti can be downloaded here.

Comparability

Boundary changes:

  • Nippes department split from Grand-Anse in 2003.
  • The metropolitan area and the rest of the west department are combined in this variable. They are separate in the 2000 and 2016 surveys.

The non-mappable Camps region is present in the 2012 and 2016 surveys, although it is not included in the 2016 variable. The Camps region includes surveyed camps from the Metropolitan Area, West, and Southeast regions.
