Description

GEO_IA1992 (V101_IA1992) indicates the region of India where the respondent was interviewed. DHS units in the 1992 India survey are equivalent to states, with the capital remaining an autonomous region.

Other sample years have their own sample-specific geography variables. There is also an integrated variable, GEO_IA1992_2015, that provides spatially consistent units over time.

Comparability

Certain areas were excluded from the India 1992 survey:

• State of Sikkim
• Kashmir region of the state of Jammu and Kashmir

GEO_IA1992, like other V101 variables, is a geographic variable added during processing of the DHS data. V101 is included in all Phases of the DHS.

Universe
