Description

GEO_JO1997_2023 reports the region of Jordan where the respondent was interviewed. The regions in this variable are equivalent to broad groups of governorates, with consistent boundaries across samples.

Each sample year for Jordan has its own sample-specific geography variable. Other integrated variables for Jordan that provide spatially consistent units over time are GEO_JO1990_2023 (which excludes the 1997 and 2002 samples) and GEO_JO2007_2023 (with individual governorates identified).

Comparability

The 1990 Jordan sample is not included in GEO_ JO1997_2023. For the 1990 sample, Jordan provides information on groups of governorates combined into a larger number of units with boundaries that are inconsistent with the boundaries in later years.
