Codes and Frequencies
GEO_ NE1992_2012 indicates the region of Niger where the respondent was interviewed. The variable is integrated to yield units with consistent boundaries across samples.
Labels identify the modern geographic units (regions) contained in each integrated region. Each sample also has its own non-integrated geography variable. The 1992, 2006, and 2012 samples have greater geographic detail available in their sample-specific variables.
An integrated GIS map (in shapefile format) for Niger can be downloaded here.
In the 1992 sample, Tahoua and Agadez, and Zinder and Diffa were coded separately but combined into two regions in GIS maps (see GIS maps here). In the 1998 Niger sample, the regions were grouped:
- Tahoua combined with Agadez
- Zinder combined with Diffa
The 1992, 2006, and 2012 Niger surveys do not group regions and have greater geographic detail.
