Description

GEO_ NE1992_2021 indicates the region of Niger where the respondent was interviewed. The variable is integrated to yield units with consistent boundaries across samples.

Labels identify the modern geographic units (regions) contained in each integrated region. Each sample also has its own non-integrated geography variable. The 1992, 2006, 2012, and 2021 samples have greater geographic detail available in their sample-specific variables.

Comparability

In the 1992 sample, Tahoua and Agadez, and Zinder and Diffa were coded separately but combined into two regions in GIS maps (View GIS maps for the regions). In the 1998 Niger sample, the regions were grouped:

  • Tahoua combined with Agadez
  • Zinder combined with Diffa

The 1992, 2006, 2012, and 2021 Niger surveys do not group regions and have greater geographic detail.

The 2021 sample corresponds to a Malaria Indicators Survey (MIS).
