Description
GEO_SN2016 indicates the region of Senegal where the respondent was interviewed. DHS regions in the 2016 Senegal survey are equivalent to groups of regions.
Users interested in using 2015 -2016 survey should use GEO_SN2015_2016.

Comparability
GEO_SN2016 is harmonized into four broad regions. Note that these regions are different from the GEO_SN1986_2017 regions.
Based on the 2017 administrative regions, GEO_SN1986_2017 combines regions into:
- West (Dakar, Thiès)
- Center (Diourbel, Fatick, Kaolack, Louga, Kaffrine)
- North east (Saint-Louis, Tambacounda, Matam, Kedougou)
- South (Kolda, Ziguinchor, Sedhiou)
Based on the 2017 administrative regions, GEO_SN2016 combines regions into:
- West (Dakar, Thiès)
- Center (Diourbel, Fatick, Kaolack, Kaffrine)
- North (Saint-Louis, Louga, Matam)
- South (Kolda, Ziguinchor, Sedhiou, Tambacounda, Kedougou)
Refer to variable GEO_ SN1986_2017 if you are using all Senegal samples from 1986 to the later years. NOTE: The 2012-2014 and 2015-2016 surveys of Senegal have to be combined when using GEO_SN1986_2017.
Use the 14 regions from GEO_SN2015_2016 if you are combining 2015-2016 surveys.
