Description

GEO_UG1988 (V101_UG1988) indicates the region of Uganda where the respondent was interviewed. DHS regions in the 1988 Uganda survey are equivalent to grouped districts.

Other sample years have their own sample-specific geography variables. There are also integrated variables GEO_UG1995_2016 and GEO_UG2006_2016, that provide spatially consistent units over time. The 1988 Uganda sample is excluded from GEO_UG1995_2016 and GEO_UG2006_2016 due to inconsistent boundaries.

For GEO_UG1988 (V101_UG1988), certain districts were excluded from the survey due to security issues (see GIS map here).

Comparability - Standard DHS

GEO_UG1988, like other V101 variables, is a geographic variable added during processing of the DHS data. V101 is included in all Phases of the DHS.
