ATLS3 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported a CHAL [Christian Health Association of Lesotho] health post as a place to be tested for the AIDS virus. This response category is country-specific to Lesotho.

Some samples in the "AT" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

ATLS3 is combined with ATLS2 (CHAL health center) and ATLS1 (CHAL hospital) in ATPRIVMIS (all faith-based facilities) for the 2014 Lesotho sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ATLS3 are encouraged to review ATPRIVMIS for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where one can get tested for the AIDS virus is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Although ATLS3 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in ATPRIVMIS, a standard variable that encompasses all faith-based facilities as potential sources for an AIDS test.
