Description

FPPROBABSS2 (V308_12) reports the woman's opinion about the main problem, if any, with using abstinence as a family planning method. Interviewers collected the information through an open-ended question and then recorded the woman's response using (non-standard) country-specific codes.

IPUMS-DHS interested in using FPPROBABSS2 may also be interested in FPPROBABSS, which coded the woman's response using standard response categories.

Comparability

FPPROBABSS2 (V308_12) may vary across samples in the number and type of response categories.

To maximize comparability across samples, IPUMS-DHS uses composite coding and a 2-digit coding system. The first digit broadly distinguishes between different problems (e.g., side effects/health concerns), and the second digit provides additional detail within these initial groupings (e.g., side effects for woman versus side effects for child).

Comparability - Standard DHS

FPPROBABSS2 (V308_12) is included in Phase I of the standard DHS questionnaire.
