Description

HCMJO6 indicates whether the woman reported a UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) health center as a source for (male) condoms. This response category is country-specific to Jordan.

Some samples in the "HCM" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

HCMJO6 is combined with HCMJO7 (UNHCR/other NGO) in HCMNGO (all NGOs) for the 2017 Jordan sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using HCMJO6 are encouraged to review HCMNGO for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

HCMJO6 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question on known sources for male condoms is included in the standard DHS questionnaire in Phase III forward.

Although HCMJO6 is a country-specific response, this variable is combined with other responses in HCMNGO, a variable that encompasses all NGOs as sources of male condoms. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of HCMJO6 or the Comparability tab of HCMNGO for more information on the specific categories combined for the Jordan samples.
