Description

ATTD4 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported a public al-Nadjma center (the national reference center for voluntary testing) as a place to be tested for HIV. This response category is country-specific to Chad.

Some samples in the "AT" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

ATTD4 (al-Nadjma center) is combined with ATTD3 (public voluntary testing center) in ATPUBVCT (all public VCT centers) for the 2014 Chad sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ATTD4 are encouraged to review ATPUBVCT for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

ATTD4 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where one can get tested for HIV is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Although ATTD4 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in ATPUBVCT, a standard variable that encompasses all public VCT centers as potential sources for an AIDS test. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of ATTD4 or the Comparability tab of ATPUBVCT for more information on the specific categories combined for the Chad samples.
