Description

GEO_ GA2000_2019 reports the region of Gabon where the respondent was interviewed. The variable is integrated to yield units with consistent boundaries across samples.

Labels identify the modern geographic units (provinces) contained in each integrated region. Each sample also has its own non-integrated geography variable. The 2012 and 2019 samples have greater geographic detail available in the sample-specific variables.

Comparability

The 2000 survey groups the provinces into four regions. East (Haut-Ogooué, Ogooué-Lolo), West (Estuaire, Moyen-Ogooué and Ogooué-maritime), South (Ngouni‚ Nyanga), North (Ogooué-Ivindo, Woleu-N’tem), and Libreville/Port-Gentil

The 2012 survey combines Libreville and Port-Gentil cities as one region, while the other provinces are its own region. In the 2019 survey, each province is its own region with Libreville and Port-Gentil as separate regions.
