Description

GEO_NP2016_2022 indicates the region of Nepal where the respondent was interviewed. The variable is integrated to yield units with consistent boundaries across samples.

Labels identify the modern geographic units (provinces) contained in each integrated region. Each sample also has its own non-integrated geography variable. GEO_NP1996_2011 provides spatially consistent units over time through the 2011 Nepalese survey, using a combination of development regions and ecological regions. A second integrated geographic variable for Nepal, GEO_NP1996_2016, provides spatially consistent units over time with less geographic detail, using five development regions as the units. A third integrated variable for Nepal, GEOALT_NP1996_2022, identifies the three ecological regions across time. Each Nepalese sample also has its own sample-specific geography variable.

An integrated GIS map (in shapefile format) for Nepal can be downloaded here.
