Description

GEOALT_PE1986_2012 indicates the region of Peru where the respondent was interviewed. The variable is integrated to yield units with consistent boundaries across samples.

Labels identify the modern geographic units (natural regions) contained in each integrated region. Each sample also has its own non-integrated geography variable. The variable GEO_PE1991_2012 presents the data across 13 regions of Peru created in 1989. GEO_PE1996_2012 presents the data across Peru's 25 departments.

Comparability

Peru is divided into four natural regions in this variable. Selva alta and Selva baja are enumerated together as the Jungle region in the 2000 to the 2012 surveys. Lima metropolitan area is not enumerated in the 1996 survey.
