Description
GEO_PH1993_1998 indicates the region of the Philippines where the respondent was interviewed. The variable is integrated to yield units with consistent boundaries across samples.
Labels identify the modern geographic units (regions) contained in each integrated region. Each sample also has its own non-integrated geography variable. The variable GEO_PH2003_2022 reports harmonized administrative regions between 2003 and 2022 with different boundaries.

Comparability
The Philippines had 14 regions in 1993, which later split into 16 in 1988:
- The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao split from Western Mindanao and Central Mindanao.
- Caraga split from Northern Mindanao and Southern Mindanao.
The 2003, 2008, 2013, 2017, and 2022 samples are excluded from GEO_PH1993_1998 due to incompatible boundaries.
