For women who were randomly selected and interviewed for the domestic violence module, DVCFAMILYFQ reports how often the female respondent's husband/partner tried to limit her contact with family in the past 12 months.

Along with universe differences, response categories for DVCFAMILYFQ vary across samples.
Harmonized coding in the IPUMS-DHS variable DVCFAMILYFQ were constructed to accommodate differences in frequencies reported across surveys. The major categories are:
- 100: Yes, timing and frequency unknown
- 200: Yes, husband ever tries to limit her contact with family
