Description

For women who are not currently using a contraceptive method, FPNONNE7 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported a mobile drug seller/pharmacy as a source of family planning. This response category is country-specific to Niger.

Comparability

There is some variation in question wording for FPNONNE7, which may affect its comparability.

Categorization for "mobile drug seller/pharmacy" varied between the Niger samples. While Niger 2006 identified this as a "private medical" source, the Niger 2012 sample categorized it as an "other" source. This potentially significant difference in categorization led IPUMS-DHS to treat this material as a country-specific variable instead of incorporating it into FPNONOTHDRUG, a variable which integrates informal drug sources, including street vendors and drug sellers.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where family planning can be obtained for women not currently using a method is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS questionnaire. FPNONNE7 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules.
