Description

MONEYFORSEX (V872) indicates whether the woman had ever received or given money or gifts in exchange for sexual intercourse.

Comparability

In addition to universe differences, MONEYFORSEX (V872) also varies in question wording across samples. In most cases, the survey asked whether the woman had ever received money or gifts for sex. In other cases, the survey asked whether the woman had ever given or received money or gifts for sex or used a specific reference period.

  • Benin 1996: Women age 15-49 who have ever had sexual intercourse or who have heard of using a condom as a way to avoid AIDS.
  • Burkina Faso 1998: Women age 15-49 who have ever had sexual intercourse.
  • Central African Republic 1995: Women age 15-49 who have ever had sexual intercourse AND who have heard of using a condom as a way to avoid AIDS.
  • Chad 1996: Women age 15-49 who have ever had sexual intercourse.
  • Cote d'Ivoire 1998: Women age 15-49 who have ever had sexual intercourse.
  • Gabon 2000: Women age 15-49 who have had sexual intercourse in the last 12 months.
  • Guinea 1999: Women age 15-49 who have ever had sexual intercourse.
  • Kenya 1998: Women age 15-49 who have ever had sexual intercourse.
  • Kenya 2003: Women age 15-49 who have had sexual intercourse in the last 12 months.
  • Madagascar 2003: Women age 15-49 who have had sexual intercourse with at least 2 partners in the last 12 months.
  • Mali 1995: Women age 15-49 who have ever had sexual intercourse or who have heard of using a condom as a way to avoid AIDS.
  • Niger 1998: Women age 15-49 who have ever had sexual intercourse or who have heard of using a condom as a way to avoid AIDS.
  • Nigeria 1999: Women age 10-49 who have ever had sexual intercourse or who have heard of using a condom as a way to avoid AIDS.
  • Togo 1998: Women age 15-49 who have ever had sexual intercourse or who have NOT heard of using a condom as a way to avoid AIDS.
  • Uganda 1995: Women age 15-49 who have ever had sexual intercourse with someone other than their husband or regular partner.
