Description

For women who gave birth in the last 5 years and who received antenatal care during their most recent pregnancy, ANCBD1_01 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported receiving care from a public medical college hospital. This response category is country-specific to Bangladesh.

Some samples in the "ANC" series include categories that can be consolidated into a single response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable while preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

ANCBD1_01 is combined with ANCBD2_01 (specialized college hospital) and ANCBD3_01 (district hospital) in ANCPUBHOS_01 (all public hospitals) for the 2011 Bangladesh sample. Additionally, ANCBD1_01 is combined with ANCBD3_01 in ANCPUBHOS_01 for the 2014 Bangladesh sample. Additionally, ANCBD1_01 is combined with ANCBD3_01 and ANCBD15_01 (specialized government hospital) in ANCPUBHOS_01 for the 2018 Bangladesh sample.

IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ANCBD1_01 are encouraged to review ANCPUBHOS_01 for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

Apart from slight universe differences, ANCBD1_01 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of ANCBD1_01 or the Comparability tab of ANCPUBHOS_01 for more information on the specific categories combined for Bangladesh 2011, 2014, and 2018.
