Description

ATMW6 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported a mission health center as a place to be tested for the AIDS virus. This response category is country-specific to Malawi.

Some samples in the "AT" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

ATMW6 is combined with ATMW5 (mission hospital) in ATPRIVMIS (all faith-based facilities) for the 2010 Malawi sample. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ATMW6 are encouraged to review ATPRIVMIS for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

ATMW6 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where one can get tested for the AIDS virus is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Though ATMW6 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in ATPRIVMIS, a standard variable that encompasses all faith-based facilities as potential sources for an AIDS test. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of ATMW6 or the Comparability tab of ATPRIVMIS for more information on the specific categories combined for the Malawi samples.
