Description

ATNP3 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported the Family Planning Association of Nepal, a non-governmental organization (NGO), as a place to be tested for the AIDS virus. This response category is country-specific to Nepal.

Some samples in the "AT" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

ATNP3 is combined with other NGOs in the 2006, 2011, and 2016 Nepal surveys.

  • In the 2006 and 2011 Nepal surveys, ATNP3 is combined with
  • ATNP4 (AMDA), ATNP5 (INF), ATNP6 (Nepal Red Cross), and ATNP8 (other NGOs) in ATNGO (all NGOs).
  • In the 2016 Nepal survey, ATNP3 is combined with ATNP7 (Marie Stopes) and ATNP8 (other NGOs) in ATNGO (all NGOs).

IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ATNP3 are encouraged to review ATNGO for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

Apart from universe differences, ATNP3 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where one can get tested for the AIDS virus is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Although ATNP3 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in ATNGO, a standard variable that encompasses all NGOs as potential sources for an AIDS test. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of ATNP3 or the Comparability tab of ATNGO for more information on the specific categories combined for the 2006, 2011, and 2016 Nepal samples.
