Description

ATZW9 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, the woman reported some "other" private voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) center as a place to be tested for the AIDS virus. The meaning of "other" depends on the specific response categories included in a given sample. This response category is country-specific to Zimbabwe.

Some samples in the "AT" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

ATZW9 is combined with ATZW8 (private VCT center) in ATPRIVVCT (all private VCT centers) for the 2005 Zimbabwe sample.

In the Zimbabwe 2010 sample, ATZW9 is combined with ATZW7 (New Start Center) and ATZW10 (private mobile VCT center) in ATPRIVVCT.

IPUMS-DHS users interested in using ATZW9 are encouraged to review ATPRIVVCT for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

Apart from slight universe differences, ATZW9 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where one can get tested for the AIDS virus is included in Phase V forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Though ATZW9 is a country-specific response not included in the standard DHS modules, it is combined with other responses in ATPRIVVCT, a standard variable that encompasses all private voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) centers as potential sources for an AIDS test. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of ATZW9 or the Comparability tab of ATPRIVVCT for more information on the specific categories combined for the Zimbabwe samples.
