DELPPCHKBWHO_ALL (M52_X)
Person who checked respondent's health after delivery

DELPPCHKBWHO_ALL variables are 4-digit variables.

See DELPPCHKBWHO_01 for the relevant codes.

Description

For women who gave birth in the five years before the survey and who received a health check after delivering their child, DELPPCHKBWHO_ALL (M52_X) reports who conducted the their postpartum health check (for a recent birth). Response categories vary across samples. See Comparability.

DELPPCHKBWHO_ALL consists of a set of up to six separate variables, covering the most recent birth (DELPPCHKBWHO_01) up to the sixth-most-recent birth (i.e., DELPPCHKBWHO_02, DELPPCHKBWHO_03, DELPPCHKBWHO_04, DELPPCHKBWHO_05, and DELPPCHKBWHO_06) during the reference period prior to the survey. If DELPPCHKBWHO_ALL is included in a data extract, all these separate variables are included in a researcher's data file.

Comparability

Along with universe differences, the response categories for DELPPCHKBWHO_ALL vary across samples.

The harmonized coding categories in the IPUMS-DHS variable DELPPCHKBWHO_ALL were constructed to reflect the major and minor categories in the original DHS variable (M52_X). The major categories are:

  • 1000: Health professionals
  • 2000: Other person

The second, third, and fourth digits of DELPPCHKBWHO_ALL's codes distinguish between specific locations and provide detail present in only some samples.

When response categories include non-standard groupings, IPUMS-DHS codes those groupings as a sub-category under the most qualified of the group (e.g., "Nurse/midwife/LHV" (code "1230") is a sub-category of "Nurse/midwife" (code "1200")).

Surveys that collected information on who gave the health check for more than just the most recent birth are noted below.

Comparability - Standard DHS

DELPPCHKBWHO_ALL (M52_X) is included in Phase IV and VI of the standard DHS questionnaire.

Comparability — Egypt [top]
