Description

For women who were randomly selected and interviewed for the domestic violence module and who had experienced physical or sexual violence from their husband/partner, DVRANY (D111) indicates whether the woman ever had any physical results of her husband/partner's actions. The specific results vary across samples. See the "Comparability" tab for more information.

Comparability

DVRANY (D111) indicates whether the woman has a "Yes" response to any one of several variables about specific results of a husband or partner's violent actions. The constituent variables used to construct DVRANY vary across samples. Please consult the relevant variable descriptions for each of the constituent variables listed below for a discussion of their own cross-sample comparability issues:

The majority of samples use DVRBRUISE, DVRINJURY, and DVRSERINJURY to construct DVRANY. Samples that deviate from this norm are discussed below.

Comparability - Standard DHS

The variables used to construct DVRANY (D111) are not included in the standard DHS questionnaire for any phase, but they are based on questions included in phases IV, V, VI, and VII of the standard domestic violence module.

DVRBRUISE (D110A) and DVRINJURY (D110B) are included in phases IV, V, VI, and VII of the standard domestic violence module. DVRSERINJURY (D110D) is included in phases IV, V, VI, and VII of the module, and DVRHOSPITL (D110C) is included in phase IV of the module. DVRBURN (D110E) is a country-specific variable that is not included in any phase of the standard domestic violence module.
