Description

EDACHIEVER (V149) is a summary variable that reports the woman's highest level of education in broad categories. Countries vary in the gradations of their school systems, but EDACHIEVER is a standardized variable providing the level of education in six categories: No education, Incomplete primary, Complete primary, Incomplete secondary, Complete secondary, and Higher.

EDACHIEVER is constructed from information contained in EDUCLVL (V106) and YRSCHL (V107).

Comparability

EDACHIEVER (V149) has significant variation in question wording, which is specific to the educational system in each country. As noted in the Description tab, this variable is recoded by the DHS administrators using EDUCLVL (V106) and YRSCHL (V107), to create a consistent variable across countries. Researchers who are concerned with question wording should consult the Survey Text tab and may wish to use country-specific variables on education instead.

Comparability - Standard DHS
