Description

For women who are not currently using a contraceptive method, FPNONET7 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported a "private pharmacy" as a source of family planning.

Some samples in the "FPNON" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

FPNONET7 is combined with FPNONET8 (drug vendor/store) in FPNONPRIVDRUG for the Ethiopia samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using FPNONET7 are encouraged to review FPNONPRIVDRUG for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

FPNONET7 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where family planning can be obtained for women not currently using a method is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS questionnaire.

FPNONET7 is combined with other responses in FPNONPRIVDRUG, a standard variable that encompasses all private, formal drug sources as potential suppliers of family planning. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of FPNONET7 or the Comparability tab of FPNONPRIVDRUG for more information on the specific categories combined for Ethiopia.
