Description

For women who are not currently using a contraceptive method, FPNONNP11 indicates whether, in response to an open-ended question, they reported some other NGO as a source of family planning. The meaning of "other" must be interpreted relative to the specific categories included in a particular sample. This response category is country-specific to Nepal.

Some samples in the "FPNON" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.

FPNONNP11 is combined with other NGOs in the 2001, 2006, and 2011 Nepal surveys:

  • In the 2001 Nepal survey, FPNONNP11 is combined with FPNONNP6 (Family Planning Association of Nepal), FPNONNP7 (Marie Stopes International), FPNONNP8 (Adventist Development and Relief Agency), and FPNONNP9 Nepal Red Cross) in FPNONNGO (all NGOs).
  • In the 2006 and 2011 Nepal surveys, FPNONNP11 is combined with FPNONNP6 (Family Planning Association of Nepal), FPNONNP7 (Marie Stopes International), FPNONNP8 (Adventist Development and Relief Agency), FPNONNP9 (Nepal Red Cross), and FPNONNP10 (United Mission to Nepal) in FPNONNGO (all NGOs).

IPUMS-DHS users interested in using FPNONNP11 are encouraged to reviewed FPNONNGO for a more comprehensive response category.

Comparability

Apart from universe differences, FPNONNP11 has no comparability problems.

Comparability - Standard DHS

An open-ended question about where family planning can be obtained for women not currently using a method is included in Phase IV forward of the standard DHS questionnaire. FPNONNP11 is a country-specific response.

To increase comparability across samples, IPUMS-DHS created the standard variable FPNONNGO to integrate samples including "NGO" as a source of family planning. FPNONNP11 is combined with other NGO responses in that standard variable for the 2001, 2006, and 2011 Nepal samples. IPUMS-DHS users are encouraged to review the Description tab of FPNONNP11 or the Comparability Tab of FPNONNGO for more information on the specific categories combined for the Nepal 2001, 2006, and 2011 samples.
