Description

FPPROBFOAMS2 reports the woman's opinion about the main problem, if any, with using foaming tablets as a family planning method. Interviewers collected the information through an open-ended question and then recorded the woman's response using country-specific codes.

IPUMS-DHS interested in using FPPROBFOAMS2 may also be interested in FPPROBFOAMS, which coded the woman's response using standard response categories.

Comparability

Along with universe differences and minor differences in question wording, FPPROBFOAMS2 varies across samples in the type and number of responses.

To maximize comparability across samples, IPUMS-DHS uses composite coding and a 2-digit coding system. The first digit broadly distinguishes between different problems (e.g., side effects/health problems), and the second digit provides additional detail within these initial groupings (e.g., side effects for woman versus side effects for child).

The label for and description of contraceptive methods varies slightly across samples. For exact question wording for samples of interest, consult the Survey Text tab.

Comparability - Standard DHS

Although questions relating to the woman's main problem with using a given method of contraception are included in the standard DHS questionnaire for Phase 1, FPPROBFOAMS2 is a country-specific response category that is not included in any of the standard DHS modules.
