Description

For women who gave birth in the five years before the survey, and whose last-born child was born in a health facility and received a health check before discharge, PNBABCKHFWHO_01 (M76_1) reports who conducted the child's postnatal health check. Response categories vary across samples. See Comparability.

Comparability

Along with slight differences in question wording, the response categories for PNBABCKHFWHO_01 vary across samples.

The harmonized coding categories in the IPUMS-DHS variable PNBABCKHFWHO_01 were constructed to reflect the major and minor categories in the original DHS variable (M76_1). The major categories are:

  • 1000: Health professionals
  • 2000: Other person

The second, third, and fourth digits of PNBABCKHFWHO_01's codes distinguish between specific locations and provide detail present in only some samples.

When response categories include non-standard groupings, IPUMS-DHS codes those groupings as a sub-category under the most qualified of the group (e.g., "Doctor/clinical officer" (code "1110") is a sub-category of "Doctor" (code "1100")).

Comparability - Standard DHS

PNBABCKHFWHO_01 (M76_1) is included in Phase VII of the standard DHS questionnaire.
