Description
SATELLITEYN indicates whether the household has a satellite dish for television reception.
The information in SATELLITEYN is taken from the household record, linked to the record of the woman respondent. This information applies to household residents, not temporary visitors, so researchers may wish to exclude visitors using the RESIDENT variable (with visitors coded "2").

Comparability
Along with slight universe differences, SATELLITEYN also varies slightly in question wording, as noted below. Some surveys ask whether the household "had" a satellite dish (which might include temporary access, through rental), while other surveys ask about "ownership" of the satellite dish.

The Egypt 2005 survey asked if the household "had" a satellite dish, while later Egyptian surveys asked if the household "owned" one.
