WEALTHSRURBHH (HV271A) is a 7-digit numeric variable with 5 implicit decimals.

Description

WEALTHSRURBMN (HV271A) refers to the household's wealth index value (urban- and rural-specific) generated by the product of standardized scores (z-scores) and factor coefficient scores (factor loadings) of wealth indicators. Many researchers may prefer to use the complementary variable WEALTHQRURBHH (HV270A), which reports quintile ranking (from poorest to richest, urban- and rural-specific) of the person's household, in terms of wealth score, for a given sample.

WEALTHQRURBHH is based on information from the household record but is available for all units of analysis, through linking the household survey information to the records for women, children, births, and men, as well as for household members, in IPUMS DHS.

The general meaning of WEALTHSRURBHH (HV271A) is consistent across samples, but the variables used to calculate the wealth index quintiles and the level of wealth implied by the factor score are urban-/rural-, country-, and survey-specific.
