HIGHBPDIAGYR indicates whether the woman has been diagnosed (by a health care professional) with high blood pressure or hypertension in the last 12 months.
The related variable HIGHBPDIAG indicates whether the woman has ever been diagnosed with high blood pressure or hypertension.
Comparability
Apart from slight differences in question wording and universe differences, HIGHBPDIAGYR has no comparability problems.

HIGHBPDIAGYR is a country-specific variable in most phases of the DHS. In Phase 8, the standard variable CHD03 is included in the optional module on chronic disease.

- Benin 2017: Women age 15-49 who have ever been diagnosed with high blood pressure, in households selected for the men's survey.
- Cameroon 2018: Women age 15-49 who have ever been diagnosed with high blood pressure.
- Gambia 2019: Women age 15-49 who have ever been diagnosed with high blood pressure, in households selected for the men's survey.
