Description

GEO_NP1996_2011 reports the subregion in Nepal where the respondent was interviewed, using units with consistent boundaries across samples. The identified units combine the three ecological regions (mountain, hill, and terai/plains) with the five development regions for Nepal.

Labels identify the modern geographic units (provinces) contained in each integrated region. Each sample also has its own non-integrated geography variable. GEO_NP2016_2022, provides spatially consistent units over time, using seven regions as the units. A second integrated geographic variable for Nepal, GEO_NP1996_2016, provides spatially consistent units over time with less geographic detail, using five development regions as the units. A third integrated variable for Nepal, GEOALT_NP1996_2022, identifies the three ecological regions across time. Each Nepalese sample also has its own sample-specific geography variable.

Comparability

The Western Mountain region is a combination of Mid-western Mountain, Far-western Mountain, and Western Mountain regions.

The 2016 and 2022 Nepal samples are not included in GEO_NP1996_2011 because, in 2015, the administrative divisions of Nepal were reorganized into seven provinces with different boundaries.
