Description

GADSCORE (MTH24) sums the value of seven variables covering symptoms of general anxiety disorder (GAD), to create an index of anxiety. According to The DHS Program, “Anxiety is a mental health disorder that affects everyday situations through constant worrying, nervousness, and feelings that could interfere with the person’s daily activities, relationships, or work.”

The seven component variables of GADSCORE have values ranging from 0 (responses of “never” for all seven constituent variables) to 21 (responses of “always” for all seven constituent variables). Responses of “refuse to answer” (code 7) and “don’t know” (code 8) are excluded from the calculation.
